The top end was disassembled to replace the broken cylinder stud. A stud extractor made quick work of removal. Thankfully it wasn’t too frozen in the cases. A few gaskets were replaced along the way, including a new oem copper head gasket. On removal, I discovred that the spark advancer was completely frozen. This may have caused the previous engine revving at idle. With generous soaking of penetrating oil, it finally came apart. I cleaned it well and reassembled with light oil. It should work properly now. After reassembly, I set the timing and valve clearance. It runs quite a bit better now.
